The nuchal translucency scan assesses the baby by measuring an area of fluid behind the baby’s neck. This area (nuchal translucency) has been found to be higher in pregnancies where the baby is at risk of chromosome problems such as Downs syndrome, Edwards syndrome and Patau syndrome.
The information from the scan can be combined with blood tests taken from you to give a risk for the Downs syndrome, Edwards syndrome and Patau syndrome. The scan will also look at the development of structures and do an early anatomy check.
This is available between 11 weeks + 2 days and 13 weeks + 6 days.
The scan lasts 40 minutes and you will get 2 glossy photos and a printed report.
